it's raining en's (halleluja)
sunday just passed had the kind of weather that
planted a smile on your face and seeds of spring in your mind;
biting breeze buddied up with
sky of blue and a smattering of sunshine...
we went our separate ways -
they to the market of food,
the littlun and me to the market of flea.
after sausage and mash, we readied ourselves for
The Great Family Walk
just as the blue bruised into black...
wellies winged into the boot of the car
up we drove to the custard dower
ready to meet our friends.
and down came the rain!
"it's just a shower", we soothed each other
but it rained harder still...
to walk or not to walk?
(truthfully, we would have cried off
had it not been for friends).
so, onward we slopped
through the slippery mud,
through the trees,
until we found one to huddle beneath
whose bough did bequeath
a smattering of shelter.
and the children skid and slid down hills
as laughter spilled from their insides...
then my friend, the dollmaker,
spun me a yarn as we walked...
little i is loving letters.
little i and miss tee (and their mama makes three)
looked at small ones and tall ones,
to find which ones she knew (which was more than a few).
that day, she chose 'n'.
so they played with the 'n' again and again;
they walked it, they talked it
(might even have chalked it).
and after a while, as they lay in a pile
the dollmaker mama, with her beautiful smile
let her lovingly snipped,
craftily clipped
en's
rain down on them...
